At the hospital, everyone sees Eric’s eyes flutter. Brooke believes he heard them talking about taking him off the ventilator, and it’s a sign he’s ready.

Bridget believes it’s time to give this a try, and Finn feels he’s capable of breathing on his own. They call in the respiratory specialist, and everyone pushes Eric to fight. Ridge says nobody is giving up, and they are fighting for their Christmas miracle.

The specialist agrees that they need to remove the ventilator, and Finn tells Eric what they are about to do and that he needs to breathe on his own. They all believe he understands as his eyes flicker. Finn and Bridget remove the tubes, and alarms begin to beep.

Brooke pulls out Stephanie’s bible and begins reading from it as Finn and Bridget administer oxygen to Eric.

A light washes over Eric, and suddenly he gasps and breathes. Eric fights as everyone pushes him to breathe. Eric’s vitals improve, and he opens his eyes. Finn asks for a sign, and Eric squeezes Donna’s hand. Brooke welcomes Eric home as the tears flow.

At the mansion, Zende, Katie, RJ, and Luna decorate the house per Donna’s request. Katie says this sense of holiday spirit may be the boost Eric needs to bring him back to them. They all are hopeful, though RJ hates waiting for news. Zende says this holiday can’t be about a painful memory, of losing the man who holds this family together.

Katie suggests they banish negative thoughts, and Zende suggests they share good stories about Eric to generate positive energy. Zende talks about how Eric always made him feel loved and just as much a Forrester as any of them.

They break out boxes of old photos to go through and laugh and cherish over the memories. Katie says Eric was always so kind at this time of year, so he needs a miracle himself.

RJ sits at the piano to play “Silent Night”, as Luna joins him, and the camera pans to Eric’s painting on the wall. Suddenly Katie gets a call from Brooke, who asks to be put on speaker. Brooke reveals Eric is off the ventilator, he’s conscious and alert. He still has a long road ahead, but this is the miracle they were praying for. Brooke says it looks like they’ll have a Merry Christmas after all, and they all cheer and celebrate. They sing Eric’s favorite carol, “Joy to the World.”

Back at the hospital, Brooke tells Ridge she’s called Thorne, Hope and Katie, and now they can finally celebrate the holidays. Donna and Steffy tell Eric that Finn and Bridge found a way to save him. Ridge tells his dad he made him a promise, and he wanted to honor it, but they took Finn’s option and is so glad they did. He asks Eric to say something. Eric takes a moment, looks around, and says, “Merry Christmas.” Brooke declares this is truly a miracle.
