Multi-soap vet Michael Tylo dead at 73 in The Young and the Restless!

Daytime alum Michal Tylo (ex-Quinton Chamberlain, Guiding Light; ex-Rick and Blade Bladeson, The Young and the Restless) has passed away. The Michigan native was 73.

Actor Michael Tylo, who appeared on six soap operas in his decades-long career, has died at the age of 73. The sad news was announced by the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where he was a film professor.

“Michael Tylo was a beautiful and caring human being — he was so special,” Nancy Uscher, Dean of the College of Fine Arts, said in a statement. “He was an exemplary friend, colleague, teacher, and artist. He had such a distinguished and rich career, but he was humble about his accomplishments. He loved his family dearly and lived a joyous life, but he left us way too soon. We will miss him greatly, but feel deep gratitude about all that Michael contributed to the College of Fine Arts, UNLV, and the world.”

Prior to his time at UNLV, Tylo had a long acting career that firmly placed him in the hearts of daytime fans. After a brief run as Lord Peter Belton on Another World in 1980, the Michigan native was cast as Guiding Light’s mysterious Quinton McCord Chamberlain, who eventually went on to become half of the hugely popular GL supercouple Quint and Nola (Lisa Brown).

Tylo exited GL in 1985 and went on to play the short-term-yet-interesting roles of Matt Connolly on All My Children and Charlie Prince on General Hospital. In 1993, he was cast as twin brothers Alex “Blade” and Rick Bladeson on The Young and the Restless, and he stayed at the CBS soap opera until 1995.

Tylo reprised his role as GL’s Quint in 1996, when the show wrote in the real-life passing of his TV dad, William Roerick (ex-Henry Chamberlain). He remained on the drama until early 1997. His last soap opera role was playing attorney Sherman Gale on The Bold and the Beautiful in 2000.
