It’s pretty easy to draw a very definitive line between Bold & Beautiful‘s Scott Clifton and the character he brings to life, Liam Spencer. One is affable, charming and good-natured while the other is… well, Liam. Asked by the hosts of The Talk how he justifies his alter ego going after a married woman — in this case, Steffy — Clifton quipped, “The answer is I stopped!”

While Liam was for years seen as a good guy, and his waffling written off as the result of a genuinely torn heart, that perception has definitely changed over the years. “Listen,” said Clifton, “this character has been flawed, he’s been misguided… but come on! If you just read the script, he’s a villain! He’s a villain now!”

Fortunately, this is a turn that is most welcomed by Clifton. “I’m having the time of my life,” he smiled.

Fellow guest Matthew Atkinson also had a chance to defend his own character’s decision to pursue a married woman. Thomas, he said, “has been kinda crazy in love with this girl for a very long time, and he’s actually committed to her… “

“Where are you going?” joked Clifton.

“I mean, Liam’s always [flip-flopping] between two women all the time and [Thomas] is like steadfast, in love, gonna be there for you no matter what. And I think that Hope is finally coming around to [recognizing] that’s a good thing.”

When the time came to share love scene secretes — always a favorite topic when soap stars appear on talk shows — Lawrence Saint-Victor shared that during the pandemic, his real-life wife (aka college sweetheart Shay Flake) stepped in as a body double and “got paid to kiss me on camera.”

But perhaps the biggest secret to be revealed had less to do with love scenes and more with the buff physiques sported by the soap’s men. “Little known fact,” joked Clifton. “Tanner is all CGI.”

Added Joshua Hoffman (R.J.), “Yeah, it costs like $100,000 a shot, right?”
