Michelle Stafford Gets Candid About a Polarizing Twist
The Young and the Restless’ Michelle Stafford recently had occasion to revisit the “Wait, whaaat?” 2006 shocker that found Sheila Carter having undergone such an extreme makeover that she came out the other end looking like Phyllis Summers. So for a while there, the Emmy winner got to try on the role that Kimberlin Brown is once again bringing to malevolent life over on The Bold and the Beautiful.
“I don’t know how well-received the storyline was,” Stafford Instagrammed, “but it was one of my favorites to play!”
We can imagine why. The actress knows Phyllis inside and out. So having to figure out what makes Lauren Fenmore’s worst nightmare such a compelling menace was a whole new challenge. “Sheila, played formerly and presently of course by the great Kimberlin Brown, had plastic surgery to look like Phyllis,” Stafford explained. “I loooved working solely with Christian Jules LeBlanc (Michael) and Doug Davidson (ex-Paul) on this.”
While the villainess was in Paul’s custody, the castmates were, in the best of all possible ways, each other’s captive audience. “All these jail-cell scenes were fun. So different,” Stafford says. “I do remember we all had a hard time getting past the ‘You want the shank, come get it’ line without laughing our asses off.
“Oh man!” she adds. “These days were beyond fun!”
Once the arc concluded, Sheila was shot dead by Lauren… only to turn up once again on The Bold and the Beautiful a few years later. (Coroners just ain’t what they used to be.)
