Sonny’s Family Is Left Speechless by the Judge’s Verdict — and Spencer Presents Trina With a Special Gift

Curtis wheels into the empty Savoy and looks around. N’neka sees him and welcomes the boss back. The staff all gather around and applaud Curtis’ return. He thanks them all and says he’s missed this place and them. N’neka says the doors are about to open so they should make this a happy hour to remember.

Jordan, Molly and TJ arrive and Curtis asks if they are here for a special occasion. TJ reveals he and Molly have a major announcement. Molly tells them that they’ve gone through the fertilization procedure with the surrogate and should know in a few days if it worked. They all toast to Molly and TJ.

Molly and TJ head to the bar, Jordan tells Curtis how great it is to see him back here and in his element. She says she’ll always think of him as family, and she’s here for him.

Molly and TJ return and Curtis explains he needs to get back to work, but congratulates them. Later, N’neka finds Curtis in the back, and she asks why he’s not in the main room. He says he’s trying to find out where he fits in… if he does at all.

 

Spencer returns home and sets up a romantic dinner in the living room. Esme comes out from starving and thinks it’s for the two of them. Trina soon arrives, and Esme realizes the mistake she made. Trina is surprised to see Esme sitting on the couch, ready to eat.

Esme tells Trina she must be here for dinner, and she and Ace are just leaving. Spencer says she can stay as there is more than enough food, but she says she’s going to run and just pretend she was never here.

Spencer tells Trina they should sit, but she says she’s lost her appetite. He asks if this is about Esme. Trina is furious that Esme assumed the food was for her, and he didn’t correct her. She knows he and Esme have been spending more and more time together, and she worries the boundaries between him and Esme are blurring. Spencer states they aren’t for him.

Spencer tells Trina that he knows the old Esme is probably deep within her somewhere, but he’s been fortunate to be able to help raise his brother. He also says living with Esme hasn’t been as bad as he thought, but he has no feelings for her. The only person he wants is Trina, and he says he can prove it.

Spencer leaves and returns with a box. He gives Trina the box containing the turtle doves he had been saving and explains Cyrus gave them to him when he was in Pentonvillve to give to her. He explains he didn’t think she’d want them at the time he got out, so Victor kept them and left them to him in his will. He assumes she doesn’t want something he got from his Uncle Cyrus and Victor, but she does.

 

Spencer explains they remind him of how much he missed her last Christmas. Trina says that’s why she wants to keep half the gift. She says there are two doves, one for each of them, to remind them they are a matched pair and belong together.

Maxie moves boxes into Lulu and Dante’s place, which is now hers.  Mac and Felicia stop by to congratulate them on the new house.  The kids take Mac to see their rooms, and Maxie opens up to Felicia about her financial troubles due to Deception and she’s afraid she could lose all of this. Maxie brings her mom up to date on Tracy’s case and that she has Jackson Montgomery as a lawyer. Maxie realizes her mom knows him by the look on her face and Mac returns and explains he almost threw her mother in jail.

The kids run out and ask if they can have a barbeque, so Mac suggests he and the kids go out and get everything they need. Alone, Maxie tells her mom to spill it. Felicia fills her in on her and Lucy’s fact-finding mission in Jackson’s office. Felicia hopes this won’t affect her case and promises she and Mac will help her in any way they can. Maxie knows but admits she felt so proud to be standing on her own two feet. She says no matter what, she’ll make this happen.

Maxie scolds her mom for what she did with Lucy because it was dangerous, and that she, Mac and the kids need her. Kristina knows, which is why she’s taking this new path working at the hospital.

 

In court, Michael talks to his mom over the phone before Sonny’s arraignment, and she asks him to keep her up to date. After the call, Michael runs into Kristina, and she asks where everyone is. Dante enters, followed by Nina who apologizes for being late. Diane arrives and is glad they are all here, as it will look good to the judge. Sonny is the last to appear.

Nina and Kristina ask Sonny how Sonny’s holding up, and he says he’s got this. Sonny takes a moment with Dante and says he appreciates him being here, but he can leave if this is a conflict of interest. Dante doesn’t care about the government seeing him, and he’s not leaving as they are family. They embrace.

Michael steps out and calls Willow with an update. Dex arrives and meets Michael, and he is sure that the feds couldn’t get anything off that smashed drive. Michael thinks they somehow pieced it back together, how else do you explain this, and he heads back into court.

The judge enters and the court is called into session. The judge reads the charges against Sonny, including the unlawful transportation of weapons. Suddenly the US attorneys stand and say they are withdrawing the charges. The judge is confused. The US attorneys reveal they don’t have the evidence they thought they did, so the judge is forced to drop the charges. He warns them all the next time he sees any of them, he wants the case prepared. He dismisses the charges but says they can be refilled in the future.

Sonny’s family rejoices, and Diane congratulates Sonny as he’s free to go. Kristina tells her dad she always knew this was a mistake, and Dante is confused as to where the evidence went. Sonny watches as Michael leaves court, and the US attorneys discuss they got played by a source who has normally been reliable. Nina tells Sonny she’s so happy this is over, and Sonny thanks Diane. Diane can’t take credit, but she can tell Sonny isn’t surprised the US attorneys had no evidence. Diane reminds him the charges were dismissed without prejudice, so if the evidence against him turns up, they can be refiled. Sonny understands.

Nina asks Sonny if he’s ready to go home, but Sonny asks for a minute with Dex. Sonny asks Dex why he wasn’t arrested with the others. Dex reveals Carly called to warn him about the raid. He doesn’t understand how the charges were dropped. Sonny says the Pikeman crates contained coffee beans. Sonny tells Dex he did good and to take the night off.

Sonny returns to Nina and says everything has been taken care of and they can go.

 

Violet, Finn, Jake and Liz enter Kelly’s. Violet states they can’t eat here as Kelly’s is their softball enemy. Carly tells Violet that she appreciates her competitive spirit, but they aren’t enemies off the field, and everyone is welcome here. Violet says she’s keeping her eye on Carly.

The family sit down at a table, and Violet continues to obsess over winning. Liz checks in with Carly at the bar about Sonny and is surprised she’s not at the arraignment. Carly admits she thought about it, but it’s not her place anymore.

Esme arrives at Kelly’s for dinner, and Carly excuses herself to get her a highchair for Ace. Liz says hello to Esme and is glad to see the two of them doing so well. Carly returns with the chair, and Esme gushes to her about Ace and how fortunate she is to have Spencer.

Liz returns to her family, and Finn says they should get to the field. Jake says they should go, and he’ll catch up later. Liz asks why. Jake says he has stuff to do but doesn’t explain what. Finn tells Jake they’ll see him at the game, and Liz leaves with Finn and Violet, though she seems concerned.

Jake grabs a table for two, and soon Charlotte arrives to join him. Jake and Charlotte order ice cream sundaes, and he tells her that he’s started a new painting. It’s of a horse, which was inspired by her love of riding.

Meanwhile, Michael calls his mom and tells her that the charges against Sonny have been dropped. She’s shocked but says this is great.

Esme holds Ace and says Spencer and Trina can have their date, they have one another. Later, Esme asks Carly for the check, and if she has any vacancies in the rooms upstairs.

Outside of Kelly’s, Mac and Georgie wait for James to return with the desserts. Georgie asks Mac if Mom is okay because she seems to be worried, and thinks it’s about the new house. Mac promises if she’s worried, they’ll take care of it.

James exits with the desserts, which Carly had made special for them. James explains he an into another kid he plays ball with inside, and he asked where his dad was. He said his dad died a hero, but the kid didn’t seem to believe him, so he pointed at Mac and told him he’s his grandpa and a hero too. Mac is touched.

Back at Maxie’s, Kristina is eager to start working as a patient advocate, and she was reminded watching Stella work how lost they felt when Maxie was sick and waiting for her heart transplant. She wishes they had someone like Stella back then.

Later, Mac and the kids return with the food, and Mac gets the grill started. Maxie and Felicia smile at one another.
