Outside the Pub, Nicole asks if she can hold Eric’s baby. She thinks it might bring her some solace. After hedging, he hands his son to her. As Nicole fawns over the newborn, she declares, “This is my baby.”

A snarky EJ finds Rafe eating alone at the Pub. Rafe tells him how sorry he is about the baby. EJ doesn’t want his condolences. He wants him to find the bastard who ran his wife off the road. Rafe assures EJ he wants to find Dimitri as badly as he does. After they bicker over how the other handles their job, Rafe tells EJ they have evidence to support Ava’s claim that Gil attacked her. So, there’s no motive for killing him other than self-defense. They agree there’s no reason to press charges. EJ orders Rafe to find Dimitri and leaves.

Dimitri saunters into Sloan’s apartment, wondering why she isn’t helping to clear Leo of murder charges — especially since she’s the guilty one. If memory serves, Dimitri delivered a healthy baby boy to her, but now he’s dead. She insists she took Nicole’s baby to the hospital, but his injuries were too severe. Dimitri smugly wonders what’s with all the baby supplies in her living room.

After copying Harris’ keys, Stefan asks Ava who should break into the evidence room. Ava calls, not it. Stefan also feels he’s risked enough, so they flip for it.

As Harris looks for his keys at the station, Ava shows up to bring him dinner — while Stefan breaks into the evidence room. Harris gets a call from Rafe about EJ not charging Ava in Gil’s death. Ava leaps to Harris’ arms in relief and then rushes out.

In the interrogation room, Jada tells Leo he can make his charges disappear by throwing Dimitri under the bus. Leo would never. Jada asks Leo if his boyfriend even cares about him, considering he left him holding the bag. D.A. DiMera is out for blood. Does Leo want it to be his? Jada gets called away.

At her place, Sloan tells Dimitri she and Eric just adopted a baby boy. “How stupid do you think I am?” Dimitri menacingly asks. “You took the baby for yourself, didn’t you?” Sloan insists to an unconvinced Dimitri she didn’t. Dimitri doesn’t care if Nicole and EJ never get to raise their child. He only cares that Leo is being charged with the murder of a child who is very much alive. He pulls out his phone to call the cops, but she stops him.

Sloan admits to Dimitri her and Eric’s baby is Nicole’s. She explains the circumstances prompting her to steal him, but Dimitri isn’t moved. He orders her to get the charges against Leo dropped, or he will sing like a canary. Sloan agrees. He asks her to shake on it and then asks her for money. She hands him cash and ushers him. Dimitri issues another threat, blows her a kiss, and departs.

Outside the Pub, Nicole tells Eric she will never forget her sweet little boy’s face. “This is my son,” she exclaims. EJ exits the Pub to find out what’s going on. He delicately tells Nicole the baby isn’t theirs. Anguished, she returns the baby to Eric. She apologizes, sure the baby was hers. Eric assures her it’s okay. After EJ leads Nicole away, Rafe exits the Pub and learns from Eric what happened.

At home, Nicole tells EJ she was so sure the baby was theirs. EJ thinks it’s unsurprising, considering what she’s been through. Nicole insists her mind wasn’t playing tricks on her. Not only did the baby look like their son, but it was the way she felt when she held him. EJ is understanding, but reminds her she only held their son for a moment. Crying, she asks EJ to hold her.

In the evidence room, Stefan hides as Jada enters while talking on her phone. She finds an evidence bag for the person on the phone and leaves.

Jada returns to Leo to ask if he’ll give up Dimitri. Leo won’t betray the man he loves.

In their motel room, Dimitri looks at the photo booth photos of him and Leo dressed as ghosts on Halloween. He vows to get Leo out of this mess.

After getting the evidence, Stefan meets Ava outside the Pub. As for Ava, she says she made sure Harris got his keys back, which was the easy part. Lying to him was the hard part.

At the station, Rafe tells Harris someone at the sergeant’s desk found his keys. A confused Harris doesn’t remember leaving them down there.

When Eric returns to Sloan at home, he tells his guilty-looking wife that Nicole insisted the baby was hers. Alone at the mansion, Nicole says, “I don’t care what anybody says. I know that was my baby.”
