Shocker: What All This Talk About Abigail *Really* Means

Days mashup with Abigail looking at chad and stephanie and clyde

This week, Days of Our Lives has been celebrating Abigail’s birthday in the most tragic of ways. Jack and Jennifer’s late daughter first made her appearance on October 19, 1992 before being killed nearly 30 years later in the summer of 2022. Now, as Chad mourns by her gravesite, Lucas has been laying into Clyde about murdering his niece and the show, for the first time in ages, has been leaning heavily into reminding us about one of Days of Our Lives’ most popular legacy characters.

Typically, when there’s a lot of talk of a character, it means they’re coming back, and with Days of Our Lives, that sometimes seems to apply doubly to dead characters.

Chad crouches next to Abby's gravestone and reaches out to it

But that’s not always the case. There’s been talk of Nicole’s brother Brandon a decent amount since Abe’s kidnapping and so far nothing. And we’ve been here before with Abigail and she hasn’t come back. So what if, shockingly, this one time she’s actually staying dead and Days of Our Lives is instead doing what you’d expect could happen to any person who lost the love of their life — telling a story of traumatic grief.

Abigail didn’t just die. She was murdered and her body found by her husband. That’s not something you shake in just a few months and sometimes, years. Chad hesitating and pulling back from Stephanie when it comes to a deeper commitment is a natural reaction for him to have.

But it also, sadly, means that the two are likely doomed. Stephanie wants more and as patient as she may be, Chad just can’t give it to her. And as his and EJ’s conversation about Clyde made clear, he could still end up falling down the dark path to revenge. Maybe some day he’ll be able to fully process what happened and what he lost, but as Days of Our Lives is increasingly making clear, that day isn’t now.

Chad intently stares at EJ.

So no, Abigail probably isn’t coming back, but at the same time, her specter may never truly leave Chad.
