General Hospital’s Maurice Benard Waxes Nostalgic About the Leading Lady Whose Scenes With Him Were… Mostly Cut!
For the last 30 years, fans know Maurice Benard for playing Sonny on Genera Hospital but before his character became Port Charles’ biggest mob boss, he played Nino Kelly from 1987 to 1990 on now defunct sister show All My Children. So, why are we taking you down this random soap-history rabbit hole?
If you watched last Friday’s 50th Annual Daytime Awards, you likely didn’t miss the standing ovation that Susan Lucci (Erica Kane) received when The Young and the Restless alum Shemar Moore (ex-Malcolm) presented the soap icon with this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award. While many sent out congrats to the actress via social media, one post in particular caught our eye…
“Congratulations Susan Lucci on your Lifetime Achievement Award!” cheered Benard. “It was great working with you, even though most of our stuff was cut out, it really was exhilarating.”
And we weren’t the only ones to take notice of his post — Lucci did as well and replied, “I always ‘loved’ working with you, Maurice!”
Benard’s castmate Cameron Mathison (Drew), who happened to spend 13 years on the Pine Valley soap as Ryan Lavery, jumped into the comments with some love in the form of heart emojis as fans sent Lucci their congrats and recalled Benard’s Nico.
