When General Hospital woke up Nikolas only to send him packing, it did more than alert viewers to the fact that he was indeed going to emerge from his coma. The plot twist also set the stage for what’s to come.

Nikolas is alive GH

In fact, Nikolas all but spelled it out for Austin, saying that no, he couldn’t reveal yet that he is alive, he had to take care of a few things first. In other words, he had to set the stage for a comeback that would allow him to hold on to his fortune, take custody of his and Esme’s son Ace and get an all-encompassing do-over… rather than, you know, potentially face charges for threatening to kidnap Ava and Sonny’s daughter, Avery.

Particularly interesting have been Nikolas and his former wife’s remarks about their relationship. He’s indicated that he wants to make amends to her, and she’s expressed a wish that she’d handled things with him differently. If they are both feeling regret, perhaps by the time Nikolas does come home, we’ll have on our hands a full-blown love triangle between the exes and Ava’s new partner in crime, Austin.

There’s no telling who will be playing Laura’s son when he makes tracks back to Port Charles, but the smart money is on Adam Huss continuing in the oft-recast role. (Look at how many Nikolases there have been over the years!) “I would be so honored to be asked back to that show,” he told Soap Opera Digest after the character started his very long nap. “I love every ounce of it. I feel like soap operas are sort of the unsung hero [of showbiz].

“I love the work that I got to do there,” he added. “I was in a primetime TV show, Power, for three years as a supporting character, and even though I was a series regular, I didn’t really get the kind of scenes I got to do on General Hospital. So, it would be amazing to get to do more.”
