General Hospital Spoilers: Is Maurice Benard Thinking About Retirement – Goodbye to Sonny Corinthos?
General Hospital (GH) spoilers reveal that fans are always concerned about their favorite characters and whether they’ll stick around. That’s especially true when it comes to Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) since he’s such a huge part of the show and the very fabric of Port Charles.
Is Maurice Benard thinking about retirement? Will viewers have to say goodbye to Sonny in the not-too-distant future?
Back in August, Benard indicated that he was nearing the end of his contract, but he seemed hopeful about the material he was getting.
That could be crucial in making sure Benard remains in the role.
On X, the social media app formerly known as Twitter, the GH star responded to a fan who was worried about his status. “My contract is coming up I’m very happy right now,” Benard said at the time.
In October, Benard opened up a bit about how he feels about playing Sonny Corinthos for three decades. In Benard’s opinion, it’s important to be able to grow and change in a role.
“I think every character should evolve I play what they give me to the best of my ability that’s basically my job to convey what the characters going through at every moment. i’m glad they gave me Mike, because playing the same thing for 30 years,” Benard posted along with a weary face emoji.
Although “Mike” and the Nixon Falls storyline didn’t go over very well with fans, Benard clearly liked being able to do something different.
The show may have to keep coming up with ways to satisfy that desire for Benard if they want to keep him around!
There’s no word on when Maurice Benard might plan to retire, but it’ll be a big loss for GH whenever that day finally comes.
It’s hard to imagine Port Charles without Sonny Corinthos at this point, but it has to happen sooner or later.
For now, it seems like Benard intends to stick around under a new contract, but we’ll be sure to give you updates on any behind-the-scenes news that emerges.
