Shake-Up: Nikolas’ Imminent Comeback a Precursor to [Spoiler]’s Goodbye
Break out the smelling salts! General Hospital may just need ’em on Friday, Sept. 29.
Why’s that? That’s the day that Ava opens her door to find a most unwelcome visitor — who we suspect is going to be her “late” husband, Nikolas.
Yeah, yeah, we know that Adam Huss’ return has been reported as over and done with. But we suspect that the soap is being as sneaky as Nikolas himself by leaking false intel to throw us off ahead of the character’s quicker-than-we-coulda-hoped reappearance.
“Honey, I’m home!”

An Ending That Was Only the Beginning
You’ll recall that when Nikolas was last seen, alive and well, he wasn’t yet ready to officially rise from the grave. He had some “loose ends” to tie up first in Europe.
Our hunch is that those “loose ends” primarily involve ensuring that Ava doesn’t sell Spoon Island, son Spencer doesn’t inherit his estate and setting the stage to seize custody of Ace from his big brother and Esme. (Maybe he’s baby-proofing the Cassadine compound?) Given how fraught Nikolas and Spencer’s relationship was, especially at the end — not to mention how much hatred Spencer still carries for his father — you can bet that the latter wouldn’t want the former anywhere near Ace. What can Spencer do, though?

Desperate, Spencer could decide to take the baby and run, thus facilitating the time off that Nicholas Alexander Chavez would need to shoot Season 2 of Netflix’s Ryan Murphy anthology series, Monster. (Although the writers’ and actors’ strikes have surely thrown that schedule out the window.)
Potentially complicating matters, Esme could refuse to be separated from Ace and go on the run with her ex-boyfriend — just as he and true love Trina have taken a huge step in their relationship. (More on that here.)
Considering how strong Spencer’s feelings for Trina are, that should be a nonissue. Yes, it’s inconvenient for him to be away from Port Charles, but Esme no longer poses any kind of threat to the couple. Or does she? (Here’s what Avery Kristen Pohl has to say on the matter.)
A Second Second Chance?
While Spencer is AWOL, Nikolas and Ava could try to unpack the train wreck that was their marriage and see if, against all odds, there is anything to salvage. She’s started something very tenuous with Austin. And it might be tough for “Nava” to get past Nikolas threatening to kidnap Avery and her mom “fatally” bonking him. But this being Port Charles, stranger things have happened.
