It was the week General Hospital fans have been waiting for, Nina’s secret is out! Well, kind of. However, due to breaking news and one day missed, we all have to wait until next week to find out how everything will unfold. Lois was back in Port Charles, and we didn’t get nearly enough of her. Plus, Cyrus is jealous of Sonny?

I Now Pronounce You…

Before we get to the drama, I have to say the island, and outdoor wedding chapel, were really beautiful. Nina’s dress was gorgeous, and Wiley and Donna were adorable. The whole ceremony was really nice, and I was shocked to see Michael welcome Nina to the family. I did get a chuckle out of Sonny’s private talk with God and mentioning his many, many marriages, and that hopefully, this will be his last one. Yeah, probably not!

With the niceties out of the way, Harmony appearing to Willow again was laughable. She said she came to protect Willow just as she has her whole life. Since when? This bizarre narrative that Harmony was a better person, and a better mother than Nina is a joke. Harmony needs to stay put in the afterlife and think about all the bad things she did for the rest of eternity.

Just as it seemed Michael was really trying to put the past and everything behind him and enjoy the wedding, he gets the news that Nina was the one who turned Drew and Carly into the SEC. At least that’s what was alluded to. We didn’t hear the mystery man he was talking to name Nina, but Michael sure had a stink face while looking at Nina for the remainder of Friday’s episode. So how is it that Michael just happened to get this information when nobody else was able to? Even Sonny and Brick seemed to come up empty. Plus, wouldn’t the SEC only know it was Martin who turned Carly and Drew in and not Nina, who Martin says ne hever named? And just who was that mystery man making who called Michael? They made a point to show him from the back, so obviously he’s someone important…

Mystery Man

So Michael knows the truth, but he didn’t find out until after Sonny and Nina married. Not that an annulment can’t fix that… but just what is Michael going to do with this information? He didn’t make a stink on Friday’s episode, and in the preview for Monday, it seems he’s still not said what he knows to anyone. I could definitely see Michael telling Nina he knows everything, and he’ll reveal her secret to everyone unless she leaves his father, and town, and never returns or contacts Willow or any of them again. Then again, last week I pondered whether Sonny and Nina’s marriage blowing up could lead Nina back into Valentin’s arms, which would clearly please Charlotte. Should Michael expose Nina and turn everyone against her, I hope Michael’s own scheming against his father eventually comes out, and it’s Nina who exposes him! What a just payback that would be, though it would be equally satisfying if Nina chose not to retaliate against Michael, which would likely really annoy him as she could tout being the better and bigger person.

It’s All About the Nails

Lois returned to Port Charles this week, concerned about Brook Lynn’s firing, but quickly found herself involved in the Ned/Eddie drama. Since the beginning of this amnesia storyline, viewers have been clamoring for Lois to return. So it was no shock that “Eddie” recognized Lois, and even had a dream about her right before she showed up. Though was it a real breakthrough memory? After all, Olivia had shown “Eddie” a photo of him with Lois and told him about her. After months of enduring “Eddie,” this amnesia storyline finally was getting somewhere… and then they left us hanging and moved on to the wedding and other storylines. The pacing of this show sure is frustrating at times! Hopefully, they’ll not make us wait a week or two before returning to Lois and “Eddie.” I did enjoy Lois catching Olivia up on the neighborhood gossip, only to tell Brook Lynn she needs to visit her grandparents more often as they aren’t getting any younger. Work that guilt trip in there Lois!

A Free Man of God?

So we finally got back around to what happened to Ava, again the pacing! The fact that she’s been missing for days and nobody was concerned is insane. Seriously, Ava is Nina’s best friend, so it’s just bizarre that Nina didn’t insist on her being at the wedding, and hasn’t been questioning why she’s not been answering her phone. Sonny also seemingly isn’t concerned that he hasn’t heard from the mother of one of his children. And then there is Pilar, who decided to go to Joss of all people when Ava failed to pick up Avery. Though this finally gave Joss and Dex something to do, other than each other! Joss and Dex, on the move to save Ava! Who would have thought?

Cyrus Austin visit GH

Ava’s kidnapping all came down to Mason and Cyrus needing a way to force Austin to testify at Cyrus’ early release hearing that he was in poor health and no danger to anyone. Does the judge not know what a mob boss does? How organized crime works? Is he new to Port Charles? Then again, everyone else has gotten out of Pentonville, so why not Cyrus. And as if making Cyrus’ “the boss” wasn’t already a curveball thrown our way, they tossed another at us with this backstory that suddenly Cyrus is jealous of Sonny’s relationship with Laura and the fact that everyone thinks he’s a respectable businessman. As Austin put it, this has all been because Cyrus is butthurt and jealous of Sonny? So is Cyrus actually Pikeman, or involved heavily with them, and has this entire storyline been a way to ruin Sonny’s reputation? Everything about this storyline just feels as if there was no long-term planning or thought put into it.

Other Odds’n’Ends

It’s great to have Laura and Kevin home, and Laura’s already back in the thick of things storyline-wise. Also finally someone has called out the elephant in the room that is Esme! Kevin was right on the money that the fact that Esme has no life outside of Ace and work, and no friends, will eventually cause drama. It’s also clear as day that she has it bad for Spencer, so why hasn’t anyone noticed how she looks at him?

The warden’s comment to Cyrus about Drew, that he’ll be taken care of, was very cryptic. In what way? Did she arrange for the attack on Drew to get him out of Pentonville, or did she have more sinister plans for him? Is he still in danger? Or was this a tactic to get the audience to care about poor Drew?

The scenes between Gregory, Chase and Finn were well-acted and written, and Josh Swickard’s performance was outstanding. Gregory admitted that his reluctance to tell Chase was in part his last attempt at staying in denial about his ALS. Now that the secret is out… what comes next? I stick to my previous statements that watching Gregory slowly die isn’t exactly the escape from the real world that soaps give us, though a tragic death is a very soap-like story at the same time. Chase knowing the truth definitely has this storyline turning a big corner, for better or worse.

Gregory and Sons GH

It’s been a while since we got a glimpse of “Tell it like it is Stella,” but she sure came back with a vengeance on Friday’s interactions with Ms. Wu. Selina had come by Curtis’ place to see her friend, and Stella promptly responded, “You don’t have any friends here!” Damnnnnnn!

Finally, it’s been a while since we last saw Blair, or had any real Deception drama or fallout from her blackmailing Martin. This week Lucy apparently revealed her plan to save Deception, but didn’t exactly spell it out clearly. Scott called it crazy, but his kind of crazy. It appears she’s going to take Tracy’s offer and give up her ELQ vote, but surely this isn’t the end. All this set-up and guest appearance and that’s it?

That’s it for my thoughts and opinions, and this week’s soapbox. As always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments below.
