The “Days of Our Lives” family has lost yet another member. Arlene Sorkin, known for playing the role of Calliope Jones on the soap opera, has died. Sorkin was 67 years old at the time of her death. In addition to her fan-favorite role on the sudser, Sorkin was also the original voice of “Batman” villain Harley Quinn.

Sorkin’s death is confirmed by her friend Neil Kaplan. “It broke my heart to hear… the original voice of Harley Quinn, Arlene Sorkin has passed away,” he wrote. I adored her work as HQ & as Calliope in “Days of Our Lives.”

It was Sorkin who was the inspiration for Harley Quinn due to her outrageous and wild portrayal of Calliope Jones on “Days of Our Lives.” The character left her college roommate Paul Dini inspired to create the character of Harley Quinn, whom she later voiced in the “Batman” animated series in 1992 (via Extra).

Arlene Sorkin sadly leaves behind her husband of 26 years, TV writer and producer Christopher Lloyd, as well as their two sons, Owen and Eli. Of course, she also has tons of fans who loved her portrayal of the wacky and colorful Calliope on “DOOL.” Fans of the soap will likely remember the character as the love interest of Eugene Bradford, and a member of the Salem landscape that never had a dull moment.

Unfortunately, Arlene Sorkin is just one of many “Days of Our Lives” cast members to pass away in the past decade. Most recently, John Aniston who played Victor Kiriakis on the sudser for decades died. Before that, cast members such as Joseph Mascolo (Stefano DiMera), Peggy McKay (Caroline Brady), Jed Allan (Don Craig) and several others also passed away.

Sorkin was more than just the inspiration for Harley Quinn

In addition to her soap role and her “Batman” legacy, Sorkin also appeared on TV shows such as “Fraiser,” “Perry Mason,” “Dream On,” and “Duet,” as well as in the film “Trading Places” with Eddie Murphy.

Arlene Sorkin is greatly missed by her family, friends, fans, and colleagues. However, she leaves behind an iconic soap opera character, and an acting legacy that is sure to be remembered for several years to come.
