Days of Our Lives Preview: Robert Scott Wilson and Emily O’Brien Tease a ‘Chunky Peanut Butter Type Story’

Any way you slice it, Days of Our Lives isn’t going to be smooth sailing in the months ahead — at least not for Robert Scott Wilson and Emily O’Brien, who play Ben Alex and Gwen Theresa. At the Peacock drama’s recent fan event, the co-stars told Soaps.com that although their characters get “small tastes” of smooth sailing, theirs is “definitely a chunky peanut butter type of story.”

“I always thought they spoke a similar language,” Wilson said. “She was a bad girl… and Alex has done a lot of wild things. He’s kind of a loose cannon, and I think he just sees himself in her and was really attracted to it.”

Yet it’s those similar qualities that promise to add the chunks to the peanut butter, so to speak.
“Deception will probably play a part in the story as it always does,” O’Brien allows. “But it’s been really kind of fun to discover this new chemistry with Rob because I’d never worked with him before until the Gwen and Alex storyline, which I personally really liked. I found it very interesting.

“And then I thought, ‘OK, so they’re revisiting this again, but I’m a completely different persona,’” she continued. “‘So how do I create a new chemistry from this perspective?’”

The answer? “I’ve just tried to keep it really light and fun, not as dark as Gwen.”

For Wilson’s money, his leading lady has been slaying in the role that she inherited from Jen Lilley. O’Brien “has been a champion,” he said. Being a recast is “a nerve-racking thing… but she took it in stride and like a pro. She’s just been killing it.”

“I pay him to say all of this stuff,” O’Brien cracked.
