As EJ Orders a Hit On Ava, She Recalls a Very Key Detail About Susan — Plus, John Discovers a Surprising Connection to John Doe

At Bayview, Harris tells Ava that Marlena has agreed to help her regarding her visions of Susan. Ava appreciates his help, but she doesn’t want to talk about Susan. Besides, she hasn’t had a vision of her since yesterday. Maybe it’s over. “Susan” appears, taunting Ava to tell the truth about the car crash.

A fully dressed EJ startles awake on the DiMera couch after a dream about Susan, who accuses him of not being upset about her death.

As Xander plays darts at home, he leaves a message for Chloe. He wants to start planning their wedding, but makes it clear Philip is not invited. “You didn’t sound insecure about Philip at all,” he deadpans, hanging up. He then answers the door to EJ, who pulls a gun.

At John and Marlena’s, Theresa explains to a confused Brady that she’s in Salem to pay her respects to Victor. Despite their rocky history, they had a breakthrough when she left with El Fideo to protect Brady and Tate. As they rehash it, Brady reminds his ex that she and Xander left Chloe with the drug lord. Theresa blames it all on Xander. He’s the reason she and Brady aren’t together, and she will always hate him for that.

Sitting at a table in the Pub, John and Marlena intently regard Steve.

At the Pub, Marlena tells John and Steve about John Doe. She wants them to try and figure out who he and his long-lost son are. Marlena relays that John Doe mentioned there was a lot of fighting going on when he was trying to get back to his son. John wonders if he was fighting in a war.

While Doug gets x-rays on his stubbed toe, Julie sits next to John Doe in the hospital lobby. She introduces herself, but he shares that he doesn’t remember who he is. She tells him about her Uncle Tommy, who lost his memory in the Korean War. Something about her story sounds familiar to him. After he tells her about his search for his son, she tries to hurry along the tests he’s waiting for. Alone, he wonders why Korea and Tommy sound so familiar.

With raised eyebrows, an otherwise impassive EJ holds a gun on Xander.

At Xander’s apartment, EJ calmly says he’s let his mother’s death go unavenged for too long. Xander declares it’s Ava’s fault. So, if anyone deserves to die, it’s her. EJ agrees. “Which is why I want you to kill her,” he states, handing Xander the gun. EJ’s giving Xander an opportunity to make up for what he did to Susan, but Xander isn’t comfortable with it. EJ hands him a check, wondering if all those zeroes alleviate his concerns.

At Bayview, Harris watches as Ava insists to “Susan” that she already told the truth about driving the car off the road. Harris interrupts, leading “Susan” to disappear. A confused Ava tells Harris she doesn’t know what “Susan’s” talking about. He urges her to talk to Dr. Evans. He’ll call her right now.

Wearing a drab robe and top, Susan whispers in Ava's ear. Ava looks forward with a tormented expression.

At the Pub, John says if John Doe did serve in the military, they could run his prints through the database. Marlena steps away to take a call from Harris. She agrees to come to Bayview, then learns Black Patch is taking on John Doe’s case.

Julie pushes Doug in a wheelchair to meet John Doe. She tells her new friend that Kayla is sending an orderly to escort him to his tests. When John Doe tells Doug how kind his wife is, Doug asks if has one of his own. He suddenly remembers that he does, but he can’t remember her name. Doug shares he understands memory loss, but his was due to devil possession.

Upon Ava agreeing to hypnosis, Marlena guides her to the night she drove Susan off the cliff. After crashing, Ava remembers running from the car. Marlena asks what happened to Susan.

At home, Brady reminds Theresa that Xander isn’t the reason they aren’t together. She still thinks about them and what could have been. She pulls him into a kiss. He responds, then pulls away, calling it a bad idea. Teary-eyed, she presses to reunite, but he doesn’t want to go back down that road with her. Not now or ever. He asks her to leave.

In his apartment, Xander crumples up EJ’s check. No amount of money is worth another death on his conscience. He still has nightmares about what happened to Susan. EJ shoves the gun at him, urging him to do something about it. Xander assumes EJ’d be setting him up to take the fall and orders him out of there. EJ obliges, but not before cryptically warning it’s time for Xander and Ava to pay the price for his mother’s death.

With folded arms, a haunted looking Ava faces Harris and Marlena in her room at Bayview.

Harris returns to Ava’s room and learns she didn’t remember anything new. Marlena says she’s sorry she couldn’t do more for Ava and leaves with Harris.

At the hospital, Doug, Julie, and John Doe bond over their fondness for singing. John Doe recalls dancing with his wife and asks Julie to join him. They all sing as Julie and John Doe frolic around Doug.

After John learns the V.A. hospital is missing a patient, he and Steve meet with an administrator, Mr. Dugan. He tells them they’re treating John Doe, a.k.a. Joseph Bell, for memory loss. They suspect it stems from a head injury he suffered during the war. However, they don’t know much about him or his son. Dugan gives them a folder about Bell’s service that includes his dog tags. Dugan leaves as John looks over the information. He discovers that Bell did serve in the Korean War — in the same unit as his biological father.

Alone, Brady recalls privately exchanging vows with Theresa in their bedroom. Meanwhile, Theresa cries on the bench outside Brady’s Pub. Xander happens by. “Theresa,” he says quizzically.

In the park, EJ makes a phone call. “I want you to kill Ava Vitali.”

Harris returns to Ava, who confesses she lied to Marlena. “I remember everything now,” she states. “Susan Banks is alive.”
