Phyllis’ Problematic New Alliance Leaves to Pick Up the Pieces.
Young & Restless’s Phyllis is out of the frypan and into the fire as she manages to scheme herself into another mess right on the heels of her ‘too close for comfort’ brush with life in prison. One would think she’d retire — or at least take a break — from plotting, but apparently not.
After an encounter with her son Daniel, who is continuing to hold his mom at arm’s length after her machinations nearly landed his sister behind bars, Phyllis has twigged on a new way to “help” her oldest child, not seeing whatsoever that it might be the least desirable angle for her to play at this point.
The Fall preview from SOD teases that Phyllis will enter into a problematic new alliance, which can only be with Daniel’s ex, Heather. Considering that Daniel has moved on romantically with Lily, the writing is on the wall. This is a bad idea, one that would only be embraced by someone like Phyllis, who never balks at potential messiness, but instead plunges right on in.
After Heather signed on to defend Phyllis on murder charges in Michael’s absence (he was helping Gloria out of a sticky legal situation overseas), the redhead took a new shine to the attorney who had previously dumped her son.
As it turned out, Heather found herself along for a wild ride with Phyllis, who took it upon herself to request an audience with a judge and changed her plea to guilty before making a heartfelt speech as to why she should be treated with leniency. Happily, the judge agreed with her, which was a win for Heather, who was pleased to see Phyllis making inroads on turning over a new leaf.
Considering Heather is struggling with her unresolved feelings for Daniel, it might behoove her to partner up with Phyllis (against her better instincts, we’re sure), who is adept at making things happen if nothing else.
Unfortunately, the preview teases that “Phyllis’s plan of redemption backfires” and that the new alliance will lead to “more harm than good”. Can’t say we’re surprised, but egad.
When it all goes to hell in a handbasket, however, someone will swoop in to help pick up the pieces.
Who? The preview hints that “someone from [Phyllis’s] past resurfaces when she needs a friend the most”. Considering that we know Michael Damian is slated to return as Danny Romalotti by month’s end, it’s likely Red’s unflappable ex-husband who comes in to smooth things over between mother and son.
We can’t say as we’re upset about the idea of Phyllis and Danny getting close again. It will certainly rile Christine anew after her having lost her bid to put her old rival behind bars, and it would give our favorite schemer a focus besides Diane and Jack, which is sorely needed.
