Just as quickly as he returned, Nikolas Cassadine as played by Adam Huss vanished into the European ether. This has General Hospital fans burning up with speculation about when the character will return — and whether an entirely different but extremely familiar daytime alum will usher ol’ Nik back to Port Charles.

Who’s at the top of the wish list? None other than soap-hopper Jordi Vilasuso, whose gig as Rey Rosales on The Young and the Restless wrapped in 2022. “If we can’t have [Tyler Christopher] or [Adam Huss] as Nikolas Cassadine on #GH, then what about Jordi Vilasuso? He’s perfect!” suggested Twitter/X user and aptly named multi-show viewer Soap Dude 2 on September 18.

“Honey, Jordi could play Helena Cassadine and I’d watch,” was a hilarious “yes” vote from Forever and a Day podcast producer and actress Emmy Morgan. “He’s a brilliant actor.”

All the hopeful messages and praise drew Vilasuso himself out of the social media woodwork! The actor, who began his daytime soap career as Tony Santos on Guiding Light back in 2000, quote-retweeted Soap Dude 2’s speculative post with a cryptic but very promising response: three emoji. What were they? Prayer hands, a heart, and a thinky face. See for yourselves below.

Are you all thinking what we here at Soaps.com are thinking? Now, I’m no Rosetta Stone, but those symbols sure make it look like Jordi Vilasuso is definitely open to jumping networks and returning to his ABC stomping grounds. (Remember, he also made the rounds as Dr. Griffin Castillo on All My Children!)

When General Hospital fans last saw Nikolas, on September 15, he was going to Europe to tip off Laura that he’s still alive, determined to wrest back control of the Cassadine estate before it defaulted to Spencer upon his “death.”

If Vilasuso were to take over the role, just as things are heating up for Spencer and Trina and Charlotte’s wreaking havoc for Valentin and Anna — and just as folks are starting to soften toward his supposedly reformed baby mama, Esme — it would be in the Nik of Cassadine time!
