Victor’s Funeral Inspires Feuding, Flirting, and Heartfelt Remembrances — Plus, One Very Dramatic Return

Chairs and a large portrait of Victor are set up outside the Kiriakis mausoleum. Alone, Alex talks to Victor’s photo about how strong his and Maggie love was. Chelsea arrives and officially meets her cousin. She feels guilty she didn’t visit more from London to see her grandfather.

Theresa calls Brady to see if he wants to go to Victor’s funeral together as a family. As Shawn and Belle come to the condo, he tells her they may be co-parents, but they are definitely not family. After hanging up, Belle asks if Brady would consider reuniting with Theresa. Brady insists he learned from Kristen that some women are unredeemable. Shawn can’t believe he’s comparing the two. Brady knows Theresa hasn’t reached the genius treachery levels of Kristen — but, give her some time.

Theresa shows up outside the mausoleum. She embraces Chelsea, who gushes over the photos of Tate she’s seen online. Chelsea introduces her cousins from opposite sides of her family tree. “So… we’re not related,” Alex flirtatiously says. “Definitely not,” Theresa coyly responds.

Chelsea heads off to catch up with Maggie, leaving Theresa and Alex to get acquainted. Theresa explains she’s hoping to reunite with Brady, but he wants nothing to do with her. The old Alex would tell her Brady’s playing hard to get and she should pursue him. But the new him would tell her that no isn’t a maybe and she should back off. Theresa likes the old him better. Alex says he was a lot of fun, but he got in a lot of trouble. Theresa happens to like all sorts of trouble.

Philip approaches Kate at the Pub. She rants about how she tried to protect him from prison, yet he couldn’t be bothered to see her sooner. Philip tells her Brady agreed not to press charges, and that he went to see Lucas at Statesville. He was also with Chloe. Kate assumes he’s still in love with her. Philip retorts that it doesn’t matter because she’s with his idiot cousin. Kate says this conversation isn’t over as they leave for the funeral.

Sonny meets Justin and Bonnie in the Kiriakis living room to toast Victor. Xander saunters in. “Celebrating Uncle Victor’s demise, are we?” he says. “Count me in.” Sonny barks that they are toasting to his memory, not celebrating Victor being gone. Xander’s glib response sends Sonny into a tirade about how glad he is that Sarah is having Rex’s baby and not his. “Not true,” Bonnie quietly blurts out. She covers by defending Xander. That sends Sonny into another tirade about how awful Xander is. When Xander throws his “crush” on Leo and Will’s cheating in Sonny’s face, Justin breaks them up.

In her bedroom, Maggie looks at Victor’s photo, wondering how she’ll ever say goodbye. Sarah enters, sorry that Melissa couldn’t be there. Maggie relays that she spoke to her, Nathan, and Melanie this morning. Maggie knows at some point, she’ll be grateful for all the time she had with Victor, but right now, all she feels is longing. Longing to hear his voice, see his smile, and feel his arms around her. Sarah assures her she’s not alone and never will be.

Before they head downstairs, Maggie tells Sarah it’s not too late to tell Xander the truth. Sarah insists no good will come from it. Chelsea’s presence interrupts them. Maggie embraces her and introduces her to Sarah, who gets a message that the service is starting soon. Sarah and Chelsea leave Maggie, who wants a minute. She looks at her wedding photo and cries.

Rex and Chloe run into each other in the Square. He wishes her all the best on her engagement. She’s sure he does since it keeps Xander away from Sarah — and the baby she’s carrying. Rex insists he’s genuinely happy for her. Chloe admits she was freaked out to learn Sarah was pregnant, knowing her engagement would have blown up before it even started. Rex allows that her being with Xander does help his relationship with Sarah. When he asks about Philip, Chloe says she’s happy he got the help he needed. Maybe one day they can be friends again.

As the family gathers outside the mausoleum, Shawn and Belle see Chelsea. They discuss how Ciara couldn’t fly so late in her pregnancy, and Chelsea tells them about her and Max’s son Isaac. She then goes to see her Grandma Kate.

Justin addresses everyone by saying Victor wanted an informal service and invites anyone who wishes to speak to do so. Chelsea is first. Despite Bo and Victor’s strained relationship, she always felt loved by her grandfather. Next, Sonny talks about how Isabella was the first one to chip away at Victor’s icy heart and how Maggie convinced him to make family a priority.

Justin returns to recall Victor’s unique style of meddling. However, he knows he did it because Victor loved him deeply. His voice breaks as he declares Victor would lay down his life for the people he loved. “I will miss that meddling. I will miss my dear Uncle Vic. Now and forever.”

When it’s Xander’s turn, he shares how he and Victor were cut from a similar cloth. Victor loved ferociously and fought to ensure Maggie and his children had the best lives possible. He intends to emulate Uncle Vic and do the same if God ever blesses him with children. An emotional Sarah glances back at Rex, who gives her a reassuring nod.

Philip mentions he’s the only one of Victor’s children who was actually raised by him. He remembers Victor’s rare looks of pride and, too often, his looks of disappointment. Philip hopes Victor can see that he’s still trying to be the man worthy of his love. Belle runs up to comfort Philip as he cries. Shawn scowls, and Chloe tears up.

Brady calls Victor their bright, shining sun. Many of them, like Icarus, flew too close and got burned. But it always taught them a lesson. He will miss that about him. “Rest now, my grandfather. Until we fly together again.”

In their seats, Belle asks Shawn if he wants to say anything. Brooding, Shawn says there’s no point.

Justin closes by reading a poem by Alfred, Lord Tennyson. As he does, a montage plays of Victor with his children and loved ones.

Later in the Square, as Brady and Alex wait for takeout, they run into Theresa. Alex intervenes when Brady’s curt with her. An appreciative Theresa invites Alex to dinner this weekend since she’s sticking around Salem.

Outside the Pub, Belle and Chelsea say goodbye. Packing food for his sister inside, Shawn sneaks a sip of alcohol.

With just Rex, Xander, and Chloe left at the service, Sarah’s water breaks.

In the mansion with Philip, Justin, and Bonnie, Kate tells Maggie she brought out the best in Victor. Of all the women in his life, she was the perfect match. “That is most assuredly a matter of opinion,” Vivian declares, dramatically appearing in the doorway.
