Melissa, who also appeared on All My Children as Annie Novak Chandler from 2006 to 2011, tied the knot with Matt Katrosar, 40, a television executive, in July 2014.

The two have been trying to start a family and, while Melissa has discussed her miscarriage openly with her loved ones and people who have asked her if she wants children, she had never broached the topic publicly before.

In her Instagram post, she explained that the photo, which shows her bravely giving a thumbs up from her hospital bed, still dressed in a gown, was taken just an hour after her D&C.

Melissa was eight weeks into the pregnancy when the miscarriage occurred.
