Oh, Snap! Young & Restless’ Victor Just Set in Motion a Plan That Could Turn [Spoiler]’s World Upside-Down

One Young & Restless character is about to be put to the test and if they fail, it could change not only their life, but also the dynamic of their family forever!

Ever since Young & Restless’ Victor Newman came busting out of semi-retirement to retake the reins at Newman Enterprises, his daughter Victoria, who was demoted from CEO to co-CEO (Victor’s second in command) in the resulting shuffle, has been on the campaign trail. Her goal? To convince other Newman family members that her father’s decision-making has been “off” and to question his fitness to run the company he built from the ground up.

Her brother Nick accused her of adopting this newfound concern for their dad out of bitterness, and warned that even if it wasn’t (as she insisted) it would look like sour grapes to their father.

Victoria took her case to her mother Nikki, who tried unsuccessfully to convince Victor to go off with her on a vacation before resuming his duties. Victor was having none of it and insisted that the changes at Newman take effect immediately. There’s no arguing with TGVN (The Great Victor Newman) of course, so Nikki took up her new post as head of Newman Media and Victor rehung his portrait in the main office, much to Victoria’s chagrin.

Next up was Victor’s decision to install wayward son Adam as Nate’s assistant. Given that Nate is Victoria’s boyfriend and she loathes Adam, the move nudged her nose even further out of joint. Adam, for his part, decided to play his role to a tee, and was soon impressing Nate and irritating his sister to no end. That said, Victoria told Nate she had no choice but to go along with her father’s plan and pretend to give Adam the benefit of the doubt… for now.

So, Victoria’s towing the line, but that doesn’t mean she has dropped her contention that Victor is unwell, or that the stress of running Newman Enterprises is beyond what he can handle. Insisting that her father’s decisions have been questionable, Victoria took her case back to Nick once again. This time he bought what she was selling and agreed to meet with their dad to assess the situation.

Fast-forward to Newman, where Adam stopped into Victor’s office to pay him a congenial visit. Adam’s boss, Nate, soon joined them, and as the men were walking out the door to head to a meeting, Victor called out to Adam, “Do a good job,” but didn’t call him by his own name, but instead that of his brother, Nicholas.

Adam and Nate were discussing the strange occurrence in the hallway when Nikki walked up. Instantly concerned after getting the deets, especially on the heels of Victoria’s insistence that her father was not himself, Nikki questioned her husband about the slip-up, “Adam said you called him by the wrong name.” Instead of denying it or pretending he didn’t know what she was talking about, Victor immediately admitted it. Grinning, Victor told Nikki, “I did. I called him Nicholas,” confessing that it was intentional. The episode ended with a mystified Nikki asking, “Why would you do such a thing?”

If our hunch is correct, The Mustache is making his next chess move.

Victor is well aware of the angle Victoria is taking in questioning his fitness to run the company. He knows she’s disgruntled about losing her position at the top and has begun expressing concern about his faculties and ability to lead. By intentionally calling Adam by the wrong name, Victor is purposely adding fuel to that fire, knowing that word will get back to Victoria about his “slip of the tongue”.

Indeed, Young & Restless spoilers have Victoria giving Adam the benefit of the doubt in the next episode, probably when he expresses concern of his own for their dad.

We’re presuming that Victor called Adam by the wrong name as a means of setting up Victoria. In other words, he’s going to test her loyalty by seeing how she’ll use the information. Will she take it to the board and try to use it convince them to remove her father and reinstall her as CEO?

It goes without saying that if she fails the test there will be hell to pay. Victor has already warned his mini-me daughter that he won’t hesitate to fire her. That would not only change her life, which she’s devoted to the company, but the dynamics of the entire Newman family.
