Gabi Says a Tearful Goodbye to Stefan Before She’s Sent to Statesville — Plus, [Spoiler] Thwarts Leo and Dimitri’s Escape

A tear runs down Gabi's cheek as she shares a hard kiss with Stefan.

Leo saunters out of the motel room bathroom with two cups of coffee. Dimitri immediately spits it out. He then shows Leo a newspaper article about Gabi’s arrest. Riveted, Leo laments how it could have been Lady Whistleblower’s moment to pivot to Truman Capote territory. Dimitri apologizes for getting them into this mess and fears spending life on the run in dingy motel rooms. However, Leo finds inspiration upon reading about Rolf’s involvement in Gabi’s blackmail of Li.

Leo lovingly looks at Dimitri, who wraps his arms around Leo's neck.

In her robe, a somber Wendy shuffles to Tripp in their kitchen. When she remarks she won’t be going to work, Tripp notes it’d be pretty complicated with her boss being Gabi’s brother. As she tearfully recounts what happened, Wendy realizes she hasn’t called her father. She doesn’t know how to tell him Li’s dead. Tripp assures her he’s there for her.

At the SPD, Jada fields bogus tips on Dimitri and Leo. Rafe asks if there’s anything on Li’s murder. Jada looks through a report and relays that Li’s are the only other prints on the knife. Rafe sighs that it’s not looking good for Gabi.

Stefan brings Gabi a latte and a scone in the interrogation room. She’s starving, but probably shouldn’t get used to Sweet Bits. Stefan urges her not to think like that because she’s innocent. Plus, Belle is the best attorney the state has ever seen. Gabi doesn’t think that will be enough with EJ as the D.A. Stefan reminds her he still needs proof beyond a reasonable doubt.

Belle strolls into the DiMera mansion to speak with the newly minted, and smug, D.A. Specifically, she’d like to discuss EJ’s personal grudge against her client. EJ points out there is compelling evidence against Gabi. Belle calls it circumstantial. She suggests he drop the case before embarrassing himself on his first case.

rolf shoots a wary glance off screen in the motel.

At the motel, Dimitri points out that Rolf is probably already gone… as Rolf knocks on the door. Rolf got word, through his mad scientist ways, that they were trying to track him down. Dimitri doesn’t need specifics. He needs Rolf to take them with him when he leaves town. Rolf blasts Dimitri for bungling his inheritance, which Megan was counting on. But despite her disappointment, Megan is willing to help him. Dimitri is family, and she always takes care of family, but that does not include Leo.

Rafe comes to the interrogation room to tell Gabi nothing clears her so far. Gabi cries over missing a visit with Arianna this month. Stefan assures her there are other avenues they can explore. Rafe agrees, despite there not being any other strong suspects. A dejected Gabi knows nothing will matter as long as EJ is the one prosecuting her. Stefan relays that Belle believes they can use EJ’s conflict of interest to get the case dismissed.

An anguished Wendy holds the phone to her ear.

In the apartment, Wendy breaks down while trying to tell her father about Li. Tripp takes the phone and delicately tells Mr. Shin that his son has died. After he hangs up, Tripp tells Wendy that Wei was stoic, as if he was in shock. Wendy knows the feeling and breaks down in Tripp’s arms.

In the interrogation room, Belle regretfully reports that EJ won’t drop the charges. Plus, he’s asking the judge to deny bail. Later, EJ waltzes into the squad room, where he encounters Belle, Gabi, and Stefan. EJ grabs his brother by the throat and nearly punches him, but Rafe breaks them up. EJ taunts Gabi about Statesville as he passes through.

Stefan grabs EJ's neck. A glib EJ holds up his hands.

At the motel, Dimitri insists to Rolf that he and Leo are a package deal. He’ll deal with his mother. Rolf just needs to make sure the sub is ready and waiting. Rolf departs. Leo calls what Dimitri did the most romantic thing he’s ever seen. It’s like if Casablanca took place on Fire Island. It’s the least Dimitri can do. He asks if Leo’s sure he wants to leave his whole life behind forever. Leo knows there will be things he will miss, but his future is with Dimitri, wherever that may be. He will follow him anywhere.

Jada comes to the apartment to question Wendy about the last time she saw Li. Wendy recalls Li being angry over Gabi tricking him out of his DiMera shares. As Jada presses for more details, Wendy accuses her of trying to clear her boyfriend’s sister of murder. Jada assures her she wants to bring Li’s killer to justice — whoever that is. After Jada gets called away, Tripp gets an alert that Gabi’s been denied bail. Wendy smirks.

Belle follows EJ to the park to declare she’s appealing the judge’s decision. EJ may have won this battle, but the war has just begun.

With a police officer standing at attention, Stefan passionately kisses Gabi at the station.

At the station, Rafe and Gabi share a tender moment before she’s transferred to Statesville. He promises she’ll be out of there before she knows it. Later, Gabi tearfully promises Ari on the phone that she’ll visit her when she’s free. When she hangs up, Stefan, eyes brimming with tears, vows this will be over soon. Until she’s free, she needs to remember that she is Gabriella Hernandez DiMera. The strongest, most badass woman he knows. Statesville has nothing on her. She’ll soon be home so they can watch bad reality TV and wreak havoc on their enemies. He passionately kisses Gabi as tears stream down her face. They declare their love before she’s led away.

In the motel, Dimitri gets a message that the submarine is ready and waiting. Leo opens the door to leave, but Jada’s standing on the other side.

Leo's face tenses as he opens the motel door to Jada. Behind him, Dimitri gapes.
