Stephen Nichols and Mary Beth Evans Celebrate the Historic Milestone We Never Expected
It seems like only yesterday that Days of Our Lives, one of television’s longest running soap operas (and shows, period) made the surprise announcement that they’d be leaving their home of nearly 60 years on NBC and exclusively airing on NBCUniversal’s still-young streaming service, Peacock. While there had been some talks behind the scenes of this happening eventually, even the folks at Days of Our Lives were caught by surprise with how fast the transition went, as they’d been banking months of episodes for what they thought would be airing on network TV.
The reaction, as you can imagine, was mixed, as some fans decried the move as the beginning of the end for the long-running drama, while others embraced the change. But while some long-time fans didn’t make the jump a great many did and Days of Our Lives‘ move on September 12, 2022 was a huge success. Peacock subscriptions went up and, rather than circling the drain, the former NBC drama was renewed for two more seasons, bringing them right up to the show’s 60th anniversary.
It was a different time, back when that first episode hit Peacock. Stefan revealed himself alive to Gabi for the first time since his resurrection. Johnny was hooking up with Ava, rather than Chanel, and Paulina was running for governor, with no idea that a year later, she’d instead be mayor! And now here we are with Peacock celebrating the anniversary of the first successful streaming soap opera with a cool treat for the folks at Days of Our Lives!
Stephen Nichols (Steve) and Mary Beth Evans (Kayla) took to Instagram to share an adorable video of them celebrating the milestone. “Happy 1 year with Peacock to us,” Nichols wrote on the post. “Thanks, Peacock, for the delicious ice cream truck!”
The clip was full of, ahem, delicious tidbits, such as Evans sharing that not only did she used to work at an ice cream store, she was also a “maniac scooper!” Actually, it is almost fall… That sounds like that would make one heck of a horror movie!
