Is the honeymoon about to be over for Days of Our Lives‘ Johnny and Chanel before it’s even begun? Because we’re getting an ominous feeling about their decision yesterday to vacation at the Horton cabin! Why? Well, when it comes to Salem, whenever someone takes a trip out into the wilderness, there’s a darn good chance something big is going to go down there.

Fires, possessions, kidnappings and hostage situations are all par for the course when anyone from Salem visits a cabin. And remember the last time we stopped by the Horton cabin? AllieDevil took Ciara for a visit while she waited to get her baby. It doesn’t get much more wild than that.

In a cabin, Ciara props herself on a couch, as AllieDevil sits next to her. Days of Our Lives

Right now, fan theories seem to favor the happy couple running afoul of Clyde and Goldman who, they reason, are probably hiding out in Johnny and Chanel’s honeymoon home away from home. It would help explain why the show’s having two of the wealthiest people honeymoon in an old family cabin. Plus, the Weston family seems to like cabins. (Let’s just be glad “Janel” aren’t going to Ben’s!)

And while this could end up as disastrous as Wendy and Tripp’s hostage situation or Johnny’s capture by the devil, it doesn’t have to. Because Chanel and Johnny could and should be the ones to finally take the Big Bads down. It’s time for “Janel” to be the heroes!

Let’s face it, Chanel and Johnny have been kind of floating around since they got back together. Mostly, they seem to talk about how lucky they are to be together as their lives have all-but revolved around Paulina and Abe’s health problems. Even their wedding was in Paulina’s hospital room! Being there for family is important, but when that and Holly’s infatuation with Johnny have been the extent of their excitement, it’s time for change.

Abe and Paulina sit grinning on their couch in reaction to Johnny and Chanel. The latter couple sit together in a chair looking pleased.

A brush with death and taking down Clyde is just what the couple needs! The villain has tormented plenty of folks in Johnny’s family (not to mention all of Salem), so we can’t think of a better person to get rid of Clyde and come into his own in one brilliant stroke. Even better? The encounter could give “Janel” a newfound taste for adventure — especially if they get to come out of it as heroes. Heck, maybe it would even inspire Johnny to finally get a job for himself and join stepgrandad John in the PI business!

Then there’s Tripp and Wendy. Not that long ago, Johnny and Chanel visited the pair in the hospital after their own near-deaths at the hands of Clyde and Goldman. They all bonded and realized that after bouncing around between pairings, they were all where they were supposed to be.

So what if Tripp and Wendy have come out of their own predicament with a new zest for life as well? The two couples could buddy up and start going on adventures like the days of old and the supercouples of old. That would finally give them something to do besides moon over each other and support their families. And it could go a long way to making viewers care about them as the show’s investing in what could be the next generation of supercouples.

Kayla holds flowers in front of Wendy's hospital bed. A grinning Sarah and Tripp stand bedside.

Because there’s no reason why the young couples are so humdrum when their parents and grandparents are doing all the rescuing, investigating and adventure having! This isn’t how you get viewers excited for the next generation or for couples in general.

Wendy’s already positioned to help scope out cases and bad guys to take down, since she’s working for the Salem PD. And we know she’s capable of so much more than what the show’s given her. Remember Tripp and Wendy in Beyond Salem 2 chasing down the prism and facing off with brainwashed Black Patch? Or how about when Johnny and Wendy when they were globe trotting, digging up dirt on their families and fighting off Dr. Rolf’s mind wipe serum?

Then there’s Tripp, who’s got one heck of a dark side (remember when he wanted to kill Kayla?) and whose dad was a a mercenary, cop and superspy. And Chanel was so much of a schemer at one time that she married Xander in an attempt to get her hands on his (nonexistent) money! All of these characters have a fire in them that we haven’t been seeing lately and it’s time to change that.

In the woods at night, Clyde nuzzles the much younger Goldman. Clyde wears his prison blue denim and Goldman holds a gun.

None of this was that long ago. While it’s great for characters to grow and evolve, that doesn’t mean they have to settle down into boring lives. So fingers crossed “Janel” run into Salem’s villains during their honeymoon — and it not only removes Clyde from the game board, but turns two couples around as they embark down exciting new paths!
