You know that old entertainment saying, “Never work with children or animals?” Well, there’s a reason for it, because you just never know what they’re going to do. We’re guessing that’s particularly difficult for soap operas that don’t have the luxury of countless retakes if things keep going wrong. But as far as we can tell, the girls who play The Young and the Restless‘ Aria never heard of that saying, because they’re clearly naturals!

In fact, the tots are so good that a fan reached out to Camryn Grimes to find out how she and Cait Fairbanks made it look so easy with their TV daughter. It turns out, it just takes a little patience and a little extra work with the little ones!

Unlike when casting adult actors, there were “No chemistry tests,” Grimes explained, “but we just make sure to talk, hold and interact with the girls once the camera stops rolling. Usually in between takes they’ll come grab the baby but we like to have that time to get them really comfortable with us and the environment!”

However they build that connection, it’s clearly working! Because fans chimed right in on how much they’re enjoying this little family and how adorable baby Aria is. And hey, that’s just the way it goes sometimes.
